Question: What is your cure for hiccups? How did you find out about it? How effective is it?

Answers: What is your cure for hiccups? How did you find out about it? How effective is it?

I was told of a study by university students who found a cure for the hiccups I have hiccups every day due to gerd this has worked for me every single time and i have adviced this to many and has never failed "exhale all the oxygen out of your lungs then drink as much water as you can before taking a breath this usually works instantly but there have been times were i would hiccup once or twice but then they would be completely gone for the rest of the day. Also just so you know hiccups are usually caused by uneven breathing so just concentrating on your breathing or slowing down your breathing will eventually make the hiccups go away but the directions I gave you will give you instant results. good luck!

spoonful of sugar, I don't know why, but it totally works.

Hold breath for 10 seconds and drink a warm cup of water.
I found it out on Jimmy Neutron. xD
Works everytime. (:

drinking water, or putting sugar on ur tongue as u stick it out, or hold your breathe...all "myths" that people tell you, but sticking ur tongue out with the sugar seems to help...sorry i don't know the science behind it

Getting someone to make you jump by giving you a scare. Also drinking water helps.

DRINK A GLASS OF WATER UPSIDE DOWN
EFFECTIVNESS? DONT KNOW MY M8 DROWNED

I take in as much air as I can (or think I can). I then continue to try to take more air in (do not let the rest out). I keep doing this it almost hurts to try and take any more in. I then hold it as long as I can. I was told about this by a friend about a year ago and since I started using it, it has never failed.

A teaspoon of sugar usually helps, but if I do not have that available I do this, I think about hiccuping. You know, just concentrate on hiccuping. If you still hiccup right away, just keep thinking of it. It usually works every time.

A shot of lime juice works for me. From a bartender. It worked when holding breath and water didn't, so very effective I would say.

Hold breath for 15 seconds then drink cool water. Works every time. Or just drink water from the wrong side of the glass.

A tablespoon of vinegar. It tastes disgusting but it often works.

i eat sugar. it totally works.

Spoonful of sugar under my tongue USUALLY works but if im at a bar/pub, they usually have something that fixs anything I've got.

I hardly ever get them but I just hold my breath....

or drink a full glass of beer.

"BOOOOO"...., If that doesn't work, try holding your breath for as long as You can,....!!

A good scare.

I know this is twisted but once I had the hiccups and my roommate at the time took me by the hair and held up a large chopping knife near to my face. All I can say is my hiccups ceased.

Another method's that is helpful and less traumatic is to slowly rub the stomach in a clockwise motion. This usually works. Hiccups are a nerve issue related to the stomach.

Hiccups are generated due to interruption in the system.
Inhale and exhale fast - bend your knees and sit on your calves- inhale and exhale as fastest as possible. The lungs will work like a compressor and the unwanted gases shall come out while exhaling and fresh oxygen qunatum shall be filled with adequate supply to provide to lungs which does the work of purification and immediately , within 2 minutes the hiccups shall be out and you will feel soothing effect . I drink a cup of water from the far end of the cup and throw it back quickly.

Or snort a piece of pepper.

The first works pretty well the second has been iffy.

I don't remember how I found out about them.

Hold your breath and (while doing so) swallow three times. The last swallow is really hard to to, but it works far more often than not. I think my ex-mother in law shared that one with me, making it an honest to goodness old wives tale, but one that seems to have some merit.

I take a deep breath, pinch my nose shut and allow the next hiccup to come. At that moment, I try to 'help' it along from the inside by flexing my abdomen. Then I exhale. Sorry, I know this isn't very descriptive. But it usually works.

The only thing that works for me is something to scare me. For example when I have the hiccups for like, hours, than I go to youtube and type in Scary Car, then I watch the vid.
:(

Only thing that works for me is swallowing a packet of sugar--usually a teaspoon's worth.
