When I was 34 and pregnant and following the delivery, I thought I had carpel tunnel, but it was actually de Quervain's Syndrome. I went to physical therapy and eventually had surgery to correct. It was extremely painful and I was so fearful I would drop my baby. She should see a doctor who specializes in diseases of the hand. Good luck. 2D

sounds like carpel tunnel syndrome, maybe? ask her doctor

Some women experience Carpal Tunnel Syndrome during pregnancy - perhaps hers is just lingering. Call her OB/Gyn and let him know what's going on.

Best wishes!

I have never experienced anything like that, but i would definately get her to a doctor especially if it's getting worse. Could be degenerative.

I would have her see her doctor. It could be a stress injury from lifting the baby repeatedly, or something more, such as arthritis. Some conditions can flare or appear for the first time after stress, hormone fluctutations, lack of sleep, etc... and pregnancy/birth causes all of those. Until she gets in to see the Dr., try using warm compresses on the joints, Tylenol for pain, and gentle stretches to ease the muscles.

Um, well it could also be something with her Thyroid called Hypothyroidism. Some of the symptoms include painful and stiff joints in the wrists. I have that and my wrists kill me just to type a sentence. If she has other symptoms such as depression, sudden weight gain, tired and fatigueness, puffness in the ankles and toes, hard to clear throat,...this may all be problems with her thyroid. Also, it could be arthritis. I know, shes young but there is even a juvuneille type of arthritis so pretty much any age is at risk. Hope maybe I have helped some. Good Luck and Best wishes for her to feel better!

She should see her Dr. as soon as possible to be sure its not a residule effect of some med she was given during or after the delivery. Also as about and RA test cause it really sounds like a strong possibility. (RA stands for rhumitoid authritis) It can be caused to become active by a traumatic event such as child birth or some other life changing thing. Good luck and God Bless and congrats on the newest member of your family.

Check for Lyme disease - make sure they do a Western blot. The Elisa test is worthless. It could have nothing to do with the pregnancy, except that she is producing antibodies for the baby in her breast milk so her immune system might be fighting Lyme more vigorously than before - thus more symptoms.
