When could I get medication?!

Question: Im going to a social worker on April 17 for social anxiety and depression. They are both really bad, so I am wondering how long it will take, ( how many visits) before they will give me medicine. I know there are other ways but medicines probably the way I will go. I will probably go there once a month. I want to get a job this summer but I am wondering If i would have the medication by June? That's three months away, and I will be going there once every month, that about 3 visits ... how long does it take to prescribe the medicine for me to take ? help please. And how long does it take for the social anxiety meds to kick in?

Oh, and I have a psychiatrist he sent me to this social worker.

DEPENDS.........some doctors want to use drugs and others don't. IF your doctor want to use medications its should take about 1 visit before he gives you somthing (lexapro, effexor, celexa) for the depression. you will have to monitor the drug and how it effects you. you may also have to incease and decrease the drugs, SO DON:T RUSH IT, it takes time to get the right combo for YOU!!!

IF your doctor dosen't want to use medications he may try and find the reason for the anxiety and depression thru therapy which in the long run may help you better understand why you feel the way you do.

a social worker cannot prescribe medicine. only a doctor, like a family doctor or a phychiatrist, can prescribe medicine. my younger brother was prescribed paxil after just one visit to a family doctor. It began working within a week.

well when i went to my doctor and told her my problems she gave me the perscription right away....(i have the same problem as u) so i doubt it wuld take very long for you....

you need to call your psychiatrist and ask him to write you a prescription for some thing to help you with your anxiety.. he is the one who has to write the prescription.. your social worker cannot write it.. she will jsut help you deal with whats going on... once you are on medication ,,. it will take about 4 to 6 weeks for you to feel better
