Has anyone used beta blockers to treat anxiety?!

Question: I feel fine most of the time, but when i have an oral presentation by body completely freaks out and its hard to control my shaking (i look like im having an elliptic fit, its horrid).

Have anyone used beta blockers to treat this?
Has it helped?
Is it something that you can become dependant on?

This beta blocker thing has been recommended to me by my mother who suffers from anxiety (goddamn genetics).
I need to know from someone who's had the same problem as me and if these beta blockers actually work?

I have worked in a training hospital and known many medical students and doctors use them during interviews and exams over many years. What better endorsement could there be?

beta blockers are nt meant for anxiety..they wll lower ur blood pressure and control ur heart beat..plz dont take them

I will not advise you to find alternative uses of prescrition drugs by yourself..leave it to scientists
why dont u simply buy an alprazolame that is meant for anxiety?

This is a very experimental treatment. Doctors and scientists don't agree on whether this is a good idea or even works.

Unless your mother is a leading researcher in psychopharmacology and neuroscience, with the greatest respect, she doesn't know what she's talking about. It's very dangerous to suggest experimental unproven "off label" uses for prescription drugs as though it were no more serious than picking which tshirt you want to wear that day.

Even if drugs are the answer, there are plenty of other things to try first.

Lastly, what evidence there is suggest beta blockers are probably more effective at dealing with traumatic situations so people don't develop PTSD, than in not feeling the trauma in the first place. Basically it was terrible advice!!

I have suffered anxiety for 5 yrs after complications in child birth, Beta Blockers worked for me, they dont completely cure your anxiety but they help with the symptoms of shaking, racing heart and the adrenaline rushes that accompany this. I only use them now when i have a bad day but you can use them on a day to day basis depending on your level of anxiety and the dosage your given.
