It's ok to drink water, but drinking too much is not good for you. Half a gallon is too much, let alone an entire gallon. Bottled water companies have sold us the idea that we need to drink huge amounts of water. The problem is we overtax our kidneys by making them work hard to get rid of the excess water, not to mention the potassium you are losing just by peeing frequently, and they don't exactly get a chance to do what they are supposed to do, which is filter waste in order to eliminate it by way of urine. Straw colored or pale urine means you are getting rid of water, but not waste. Urine should be yellow and people now think it means that's a sign of dehydration.

Preposterous!

Drink when you feel thirsty. Even a good thing, taken immoderately is bad.

She COULD be talking about the loss of electrolytes in your urine with excessive fluid intake. That's a lot of fluid, about 5 liters a day! You can get something called water intoxication, but that tends to be more of a psychiatric diagnosis. But, nonetheless, you can lose sodium, chloride and potassium in your urine in excessive amounts with too much fluid intake.

That is too much. You are washing out the vitamins and electrolytes in your body. Drink 6 to 8 glasses per day, no more. If you are constantly thirsty have a test done for diabetes.

You should only drink about eight 8 oz. glasses of fluid a day. Water is best; some others are diuretics and can dehydrate you. Moderation is the key.
