Physical illness because of a mental issue?!

Question: we've all heard stories about people dying from depression, sadness, or love, but do you seriously believe this could happen? can you become physically sick because of a psychological dilemma? I believe so myself coz yesterday was the third time I get sore throat, fatigue, nausea, headache, backache, & fever after I was told a bad news! Have you ever experienced that? & I don;t mean just depression & feeling like you don't want to get out of bed, but something as real as e.g. sore throat?

A large percentage of illness (in America at least) is somatic, meaning that emotional or psychological upset (eg, stress) eventually translates into physical illness of some kind. This does not mean that the physical illness is "not real" (or that all physical illnesses are psychosomatic); it means that the neurochemical and immunological effects of stress, anxiety, or whatever, have modified the physical body to be more vulnerable to pain syndromes or various illnesses or disease conditions. Ideally, both the physical body and the psychological or situational factors must be addressed for healing to occur. Symptoms usually build up over time, though. You generally wouldn't hear bad knews and suddenly get viral flu symptoms although you might hear bad news and if you were already overly sensitized to stress reactions, neurological inflammation might occur and you would get a headache and other inflammatory symptoms.
