Tongue piercing? (?!

I'm turning 14 tomorrow...
Alot of my friends have tongue piercings, and their parents dont mind.
I have my belly and ears pierced but I really want to pierce my tongue. I am sure that I would take care of it very well...
My mum gets very angry when I ask her if I could at least do it when I am 15. I told her that alot of people have them at the age of 13. She thinks that its yuck and food gets stuck under or something.
Can anybody with a tongue piercing explain to me the good and bad sides of a tongue piercing please?

I got my tongue pierced when i was 14 (I'm now 18) so iv had it a good few years!
There isn't really a good side of having it done, its just like having your ears nose etc done.. but I love it! and think they look great!
The only downside is the pain for the first 3-4 days but after that every things perfect!
What your mum said about getting food stuck under it isn't exactly true! The only food I find hard to eat is sticky sweets for examples toffee, chocolate eclairs etc...because they do sometimes get stuck on the top ball but its no different from eating those things and it getting stuck to your teeth, it comes straight off!
So in my eyes there are no bad sides and id definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested!!

tongue piercings, its like a bulls eye it tells every body else what you like to do with your Tongue. even if you don't .you would be stereo typing you're self its like having a back tattoo. it just says look at me I'm easy. listen to your mom sounds like you get away with enough as it is.
You are a bit young for this type of thing.
I should wait a few years - at least until you are 18.
I'm not against them - but I always think that such serious body adornments should be left until you are an adult.
Also - there are sexual connotations connected to tongue piercings which are innappropriate for a girl of 14.

Just look at it this way! What would you think if u saw your granny with a tongue piercing! she would be the laughing stock! We all grow old and do have regrets in life! Dont do it!
A tongue piercing is not really advisable. You could chip your teeth with the tongue ring, and it takes a while for your tongue to heal after the piercing, leaving your mouth open to infection.
