Why would you need a contrast dye injected into your veins for a pelvic MRI?!

Question: I had this test done today, and the Dr didn't warn me that this was part of the test (I'm scared to death of needles...hmmm, maybe that's why he didn't tell me? LOL)
They did 1/2 of the MRI, then injected me with contrast dye and then did the other half.
I asked the technician why this needed to be done, and his answer was "it's on the script."
Can anyone give me some ideas?

The contrast dye "lights up" your internal organs so they can see where the problem is. They first do the MRI without the contrast and then inject the contrast, and compare the images to find out what is going on in there. Good Luck!!

So the results are easier to read later. The color makes everything pop and show things they wouldn't be able to see otherwise. I'm surprised the technician couldn't or wouldn't give you a good answer... strange. Good LUck, everything will be fine.
