Supplements???!

Question: currently i take a multi-vitamin(centrum), and i just started taking biotin for hair/skin/nail health(mine tends to be brittle). my question is what other supplements(if any) should i look into? i was wondering about fish oil,b-complex, and calcium specifically.
i am 23/f, eat well and stay active. mother to one and possibly another in the near future. also is there a supplement that supports vision health(i wear glasses)? i know this is a 'scattered' question, but any advice is appreciated. just want to know what i really need, before i waste the money. thanks><

Females are generally higher risk for osteoporosis, so calcium is usually good--but generally isn't really necessary at your age (23) unless you are high risk or don't get a lot in your diet (e.g. if you don't eat dairy). Bone mass tends to increase until about age 30, then it reaches its peak, and slowly begins to decline until menopause when it decreases faster. So I wouldn't begin supplementing calcium until you are closer to 30, if you want to save $.

Fish oil is good for heart health & cholesterol (specifically triglycerides), but again, you are young & low-risk, so it is probably not necessary at your age, unless you have risk factors.

If you are pregnant, you should probably take folic acid, since it has been shown to prevent neural tube defects (problems with the spinal cord in the baby) during pregnancy. Many prenatal vitamins are probably supplemented with this however, so possibly you could just switch your centrum for a prenatal vitamin if you become pregnant.

I am not sure about supplements for vision health in people who wear glasses--just for people with things like macular degeneration.

Really, supplements are OK, but eating healthy and exercising regularly are probably the most important. Keep it up!

try a multivitamen or eat a lot of carrots or vitamen a, dont sit close to the tv/ computer and dotn look into the micro wave

try the GNC vitapacs they have every combination of vitamins and minerals you could want. you could ever want they also are pretty cheep compaired to most vitamins.fish oil is a great fatty acid and it wont hurt to take but you dont really need it if you eat healthy, Same with B. and for calcium it depends sence your a woman i would recomend to have at least 150% of your daily value especialy if you run because it puts stress on bones. Glucosimene and condroyton are anouther good thing to take if you run because they help with joint health.
