Congratulations for wanting to do something to protect your good health!

I was a smoker for over 30 years, and most of that time I had no intention of stopping!

I don't recommend cold turkey at all. I stopped and started again a couple of times, but each time I was smoking less and less.

For me, it was a gradual process. I listened to a CD by Kevin Trudeau that has some information and things to look at in your own life that was very helpful.

For example, while you are in the process of stopping, don't tell yourself that "you will never have one again" - hello?? Doesn't that make you want one even more? I still have the opinion to this day that I can have one whenever I want.

I also gradually improved my nutrition and physical activity and increased my water consumption and that helped a lot too.

All the stuff in cigarettes, as we know, is toxic to our body, so you might consider giving your body some help in that area to start things off.

i attempted to quit about 13 times before i actually did it.
i could not go cold turkey. not for me. nuh uh. i was LOSING my MIND every single day and freaking out and talking a mile a minute and laughing and crying and eating CAKE and dairy queen blizzards every single day and gaining weight and i HADN'T EVEN QUIT YET.
whewwwww.

so, i started taking wellbutrin (zyban)
and after 3 months on it
i
quit
for
good.

and that was 10 years ago. i have never looked back.

I quit when my 5 year old son said he was going to smoke when he grew up. That was 14 years ago.

It's not easy, but you'll feel much better. Exercise can help... try running 3 times per week.

I used patches plus got and old jam jar & put the money I saved everyday in it. Buy the end of month 1 I bought myself a CD walkman!!! Good luck & good lungs too!!!!

I had angioplasty back in '99, so I quit (a week later, but I did quit)...for about four years. Took it up again. Stopped for a while, took it up again.Tough habit to break. I haven't had a smoke since Jan 8, 2008. I decided to stop for financial reasons (New Year's resolution, to "improve my life"...that pretty well covers everything). So, I'm saving about $100/month, and don't really miss them. And the cravings aren't nearly as bad this time.

I went cold turkey and have been stopped nearly 2 years. Im 24 and used to smoke 20 a day. You can do it if you really want to, though I did have the big insentive a new boyfriend who hated smokers lol. So maybe set yourself some insentives like the money you would of spend put it away and buy somert propa nice that you really want coz you will save loads of money!!
Good luck, hope this helps

I'm 40 this year. I started smoking when I was 18 or so. I've quit a few times, and even made it a whole 2 weeks once. All in all I probably tried five or six times.
I never really wanted to quit because I enjoyed the hell out of havin' a smoke, hangin' out...you know. When I turned 40, it was time. I knew that I was tired of the smell; my car reeking, my clothes smelling and so on. I also knew that I could spend all that money elsewhere. I got an rx for chantix from my doctor, took it as prescribed, then went cold turkey. My last cig was 11:55 (ish) on January 13th, 2008. I crave, yeah, but I joined a gym and I've not felt this good in a long, long time. Yep, it's okay for you to fail. When you are ready, and really want to, you'll do it. Just keep trying.

just once.
I simply stopped smoking & started drinking more.

not everyone has that kind of willpower, but kudos to you for realizing smoking isn't healthy.

I quit cold turkey by staying away from smokers for as long as I can. The reason I quit was because one day I could hardly breathe and felt like dying so I have quit for almost 10 years now. Good Luck.
