Yes, because it probably contains carbon monoxide gas. This is why you should never have a charcoal barbecue indoors.

All smoke is bad for your lungs but the amount you get from charcoal like off a bbq is not usually enough to cause harm.

If it isn't on regular basis all the time you should be fine, but anything that gives off harmful fumes should not be on a regular basis especially if you have breathing/lung condition or problems. It will make it worse. My father never smoked a day in his life but passed away from COPD after many years of being a welder and breathing in dumes and harmful chemicals over about 20 some years.
