Can you develop lactose intolerance when you get older?!

Question: I am 43 and especially after eating ice cream or some other dairy products I get an upset stomach, diarrhea, and gas. I never had lactose intolerance before. It seems to be worse at night. Is this common?

Yes, the way that I understand it is that the gene that can either accept or deny the lactose digesting capabilities of the body shut off and go into "deny mode" as most of us get older. Learned this in Biology as well. http://www.medicinenet.com/lactose_intol...
I have the same problem, coupled with Irritable Bowel Syndrome! It's worse at night for me too, way worse! Please make sure you don't have IBS also! If you do, prevacid or protonix works for me, even consider lactaid milk products, which is 100% lactose free.

Yes, you can develop pretty much any alergy at any point in your life.
