Bad coughing and weird coloured snot?!

Question: Last week I had 4 days off of work because I had the flu. I had bad headaches, nausea, vomiting, coughing. I started to feel better but I still had a bad cough. But this week I've started getting really bad headaches, really bad coughing, nose bleeds and whenever I blow my nose a really dark yellow/gold coloured snot comes out and sometimes when I cough. Has anyone got any ideas what it is?

Yellow/gold or green snot means you have a bacterial infection.
You need an antibiotic to get rid of it.
It sounds like you have sinusitis.
For cough: Suck on Zinc lozenges.
Gargle with very warm salt water 3-4/day.
Gargle with Hydrogen peroxide (it will feel strange because it bubbles).
Drink tea with lemon & honey.
Headaches: 2 Aleve or Advil for pain & reduce inflammation.
If you have pressure when you press on forehead, eyes, cheeks you are having sinus headaches.
Drink tons of water & fluids (not milk).
Headaches, nosebleeds, mucus: Your nose is bleeding because you are very dry.... Try Mucinex to loosen mucus (it works great).
Use saline nasal spray several times/day.
Moisturize nostrils with triple antibiotic ointment...then moisturize with any face or body lotion ongoing (it keeps bacteria from entering body).

Vit C 2000mg every 2 hours for 2 days.
Zinc 50mg.

Feel better soon

just the after effects of the flu

You may have a chest infection. Go to your GP! Hope you feel better soon.

i think you should go see a doctor

Sinuses could be infected. You may need an antibiotic. Fever? If not, just blow your nose as often as necessary and drink plenty of fluids to thin the secretions (or take Mucinex along with the fluids). If no fever, and you don't actually FEEL bad, you are probably just blowing all that yucky stuff out from when you were sick.

You need to seek medical treatment as soon as possible, as it sounds like you've developed a secondary infection. This sometimes happens following 'flu - just when you feel you're recovering. Bacteria often enter the lower respiratory system and can cause the symptoms you describe. Get well soon.

It sounds as if you have a chest infection. Drink plenty of fluids. Try a steam inhalation to help clear your nose and thin the mucous. When you blow your nose, try to blow one side at a time while pressing the other nostril closed. Blowing too hard can make your nose bleed.

Make an appointment to see your doctor. if you do have an infection, you will need antibiotics. Hope you soon feel better.
