When you breathe in, which direction does your diaphram go in?!

Question: Mine has always gone inward when I took a breathe in, but my friends say it's the other way around. Although, you'd think they when you took a breath in that your ribcage would expand and your diaphram would contract. If I breathe in and try to stick my stomach out it makes me feel uncomftorable. I'm tihnking they're doing it sub-conciously because one would think when you breathe in your whole body expands.

From the view of the lung: out. From the view of the belly: in.

When you breathe in, your diaphragm will move downwards...

When you inhale (breathe in) your diaphragm flattens out (goes down due to it's dome shape) and at the same time your ribs expand. This action actually causes the inhalation. So for most people, the belly goes out during inhalation. Some people do diaphragm breathing, where they keep their ribcage from expanding and only use their diaphragm to inhale. It sounds like that is what you are doing.

inhalation: when u breathe in your diaphragm goes up an out
exhalation: when u breathe out your diaphragm goes down and in
