How do we know for sure our plates and cups are lead free?!

Question: I remember decades ago they used to tell us never to buy dollar store cups and plates as they all came from China and had lead in them. They said ceramics etc. from Italy, Spain, etc. were safe to use.

But nowadays EVERYTHING comes from China...even the seemingly "Italian style" dishes etc.

So with all the problems of late, who is really inspecting these products we use to eat out of and off of to make sure they are safe?

How do I know they aren't still all full of lead? Do you really think any agencies inspect these types of things?

Hi Eve,
we don't it's disgusting and as a matter of fact I went to a Chinese supermarket were they have a lot of pots and pans, at a reasonable amount. I asked the owner if it contains lead, because those pots are so cheap, he didn't have an answer.
There are no labels indicating what is contained in our utensils, cups, saucers, yes everything is made in China, at one time you could find items belonging to other countries. But I hear even in Italy everything there is being imported from China.
We have an oversaturation of Chinese goods, we as consumers have a right to know. I personally do not buy anything from China, hard as it is. Recently my son went to a Birthday party, the stuff contained in the loot bag, including some chocolates came from you guess it...
Seems like we are going to have to insist on labels.

Remember the old saying you get what you pay for.

When you buy ANYTHING that you cook on, remember that it ALL LEECHES INTO YOUR FOOD.

EVEN LEAD CRYSTAL glasses and decanters have lead I've tossed all mine out. If you use them, never store booze in them they just SUCK UP THE LEAD. Report It
