I am so dissapionted with my doctor.?!

Question: I went to the doctors this morning desperate for him to help me with an abcess in my mouth & to get help quitting smoking - he wouldn't give me anti biotics as he says i just need to go to the dentist (i can't get one & if i could the last bill was 5K and obviously hasn'y worked hence....) with reg to smoking he told me to go & buy patches - i've worked all my life & never got to the docs as usual the surgery was full of benefit scroungers happily leaving with prescriptions for methadone. Why do we bother?

OK, what you need to do first is write a letter of complaint to the Practise Manager and inform them that IF you don't receive treatment within a reasonable time, you will forward your complaint to the FHSA (Family Health Service Authority)
The FHSA are the local Governing body of GP practices in the UK and they will investigate your complaint and if necessary, they will take action against this quack of a doctor for you.

i wouldnt assume any addict getting a methadone prescription is happy in the slightest, they have a terrible addiction to fght, you have no right to judge them just because you are unsatisfied with your diagnostics.

do as the doctor advised

There must be more than one doctor at your local surgery, so try to make an appointment to see a different doctor. You might get better treatment that way.

sorry but doctors don't do abscesses on teeth, that's for a dentist. If in UK why don't you find a NHS dentist. They will give you anti biotics for it and painkillers too. As to stopping smoking, why not do a google search as there are a lot of help these days with support groups etc to stop smoking.

I totally agree about the pain, it's absolute hell, so know what you are feeling believe me. Spent 4 days of sheer nightmare because dentist gave me antibiotics but said didn't need painkillers, ha bloody ha, i wish i could have gone back told him where to shove his advice. Pain killers were the only thing that helped quickly.

as a said 'benefit scrounger' i would like to say....well i guess i cant type what i'd really like say.
but anyway follow ur doctors advice get a dentist. and buy patches u'll find they average out chepaer than cigs

and for the record not all ppl pn benefits are on drugs or alcohloics i hopeone day u need the benefits system then u'll be damn greatfull for it

As a person with a disability who is in receipt of benefits, I find your comment on "benefit scroungers" to be highly offensive, you have no right to judge others' just because you're angry with your doctor.
GP's do not practise oral medicine, he is correct, you need to see a dentist. & it won't cost 5k to get an abcess treated.
The NHS (assuming you are British) have a well advertised Stop Smoking helpline & offer support including advice & support groups.
See how nice & helpful benefit scroungers can be? I hope you change your attitude soon.

Well the only the dentist can give out dental antibiotics. As for the smoking, lots of people see it as a lifestyle CHOICE. And think you can give up any time. So for that perhaps you can go to boots and get help. Because they have help who you can speak to in there

i agree with you, i have worked all my life, and when i go to the docs its either filled with scroungers thats claiming disability or addiction drugs
its about time the gov done some thing about it, and get these shirker to work

sometimes doctors believe what they think is gospel. The best thing that you can do is go see another doctor. Some people have to go see 4-5 doctors before they are satisfied.

unfortunatly thats just how it works.

if we became selective about which people are allowed medical treatment, public health will suffer. Everybody has a universal right to healthcare. You should not judge people you know nothing about. It maybe annoying to you but thats just the way it is.

good luck

doctors and a&e dep/t dont like dealing with the teeth department , you need a dentist if you can not find a dentist then phone hhs direct and they will find one for that problem only or your local hospital may have a department run for people who have no dentist for emergency work

Ok, it is up to them but it's poor practice to not provide you with patches. The only reason I can see why the doctor would say that is if you've had patches/gum etc off him before loads of times and still not quit, then they won't give you any more. If thats not the case and this is the 1st time you've asked, email or write to the General Medical Council, they'll sort it.

He's right about the abcess though, they are usually caused by rotting/infected teeth and your dentist has to sort it out. If yopu can;t afford a dentist is there no free dental hospital anywhere near you? I know theres one in Manchester but I don't know where you are. Maybe it woukd be an idea to get dental insurance? Its worth it for a few quid a month

Maybe a lot of the so called 'benefit scroungers' don't smoke, maybe you should get your own life in order first before you judge others.
