It hard to say for sure how the scan will go since I don't know the place where you are having the exam done but I will describe how I do them!. The first step is everyones favorite; checking into the facility (paper work) you will probably need insurance information and ID!. Then you will be sent to the MRI waiting area where you will be give a safety questionaire!. Mine ask for a discreption fo your symptoms and when they started ( Be very specific if you can we really don't get much info before hand)!. We then ask you a bunch of questions about surgeries and posible metal in your body!. Most surgical and dental metal is fine but please tell the technologist about any that you have for safety sake!. If you are to have contrast they probably will also ask for a list of your medications both prescription and over the counter!.

Once the paper work is complete the technologist will take you to a dressing area all loose metal and metal in the area of interest must be removed!. I always suggest that you don't wear any if possible than a lot of the time you will not even need to change!. You will be able to lock up you belongings!. The technologist will take you into the scan room!. You will be asked to lay on the table flat on you back with a cusion under your knees to take stress of your back!. (If you have back pain I suggest you take your favorite pain reliever prior to the scan)!. You will most likely be given ear plugs or ear phones the machine is noisy!. I put the noise level at bad rock concert but the only folks that show up are the base, drums and occational horns!. The exam is broke up into scans each of which take about 2!.5 minutes and each sounds differently!.
The time and number of scans very from place to place and machine to machine!. You get the clearest and fastest scans in a short bore scanner!. ( The one that looks like the play tunnel at the fast food restraunt)!. Open scanner are slower and get poorer resolution; your physician should a have scheduled you at the place appropriate to you!. My exam if you have not had back surgery take 15 minutes and 30 minutes if you have had surgery or your Doctor asks for contrast for another reason (cancer, infection, ms)!. You must hold you whole body very still during the scan even taping you foot can cause blurry images, breathing and swallowing however are OK!.

When the exam is complete you will be allowed to get your things and be free to leave!. The report will get to you doctor in around a week hopefully less and he will tell you what to do next!.

MRIs are perfectly safe and give you great images of the nerves, discs, bones and spinal cord!. Best thing to do is close your eyes lay back and take a short nap!. Nothing hurts while in the scanner!. Hopefully you will get the answers that help you feel better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive, usually painless medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions!. I didn't feel anything when I had my legs looked at!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had one done recently!. It was very comfortable!. There's a table you lie on!. They gave me headphones with music because the machine is kind of loud!. I closed my eyes and listened to the music!. I was very relaxed and fell asleep at one point!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is primarily used in medical imaging to visualize the structure and function of the body!. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Magnetic Resonance Imaging
You will probably lie down on a cot that wheels into a large tube!. You will be asked to lie perfectly still and you will hear some "clanging" noises!. They might be able to play some music for you so you won't get tense from being in a closed in space!.
It will give the doctor images similar to an X-ray, but shows more of soft tissue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all, it stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging!.
It uses a powerful magnetic feild to align the magnetization of hydrogen atoms in the body!. Radio Waves are used to alter the alignment of the magnetization, causing the hydrogen atoms to produce a rotating magnetic field!. This signal can reconstruct an image of the body!. It's basically like a really big xray machine, except besides seeing only bones, you can see organs, tissues, and even blood flow!.

I hope I helped!. :]Www@Answer-Health@Com
