What is the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber!?!? I have the general idea, but which is actually better for your digestive system!?!? I'm sure that both are good!.!.!.!.or maybe one is useless!?!? See these things appear on many food labels, and am curious!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Soluble fiber, like that in oatmeal, can absorb water, thus turns into this "paste" in the digestive tract and moves very slowly through the body (which is why oatmeal is such a great breakfast food!.!.!.keeps you from getting hungry again too fast)!. Insoluble will not absorb water, it moves faster through the body, and helps prevent constipation as well as "sweep" the walls of the intestines (which helps prevent intestinal cancer)!. Both are needed!.

Both types are good - and you need both - they have different but similar functions in the body!.!.!.!.

Soluable fiber is one that is broken down into smaller bits as it digests!.!.!.!.imagine if you fill a glass with bran flakes, then let it soak in water for it bit - it turns into a soggy mess!.
But insoluable fiber doesn't break down!.!.!.!.which is why you see things like corn in the stool a day or so after you eat it!.!.!.!.
Sorry for the visual there, but its the best way to explain it - it simply doesn't break down!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
