Throughout my teenage years I suffered badly with throat infections - most leading to white pus leaking out of the affected areas!. When I was 19 I had my tonsils out, and while it did have a positive effect on the severity of my bouts of tonsillitis (ie I am at least able to swallow now when I have a throat infection) it did not affect the frequency of the infections - and I still have flare-ups every few weeks!.

Having my tonsils out was not an easy option - for every person who says it's an easy operation to get over, there's another, like me, that's had a bad experience!. It took me a long time to get over it - and during the recuperation time as well as not being able to swallow I was almost completely deaf and at first I was also vomiting a good deal - try being sick when you've just had throat surgery; it's terrible!. The other drawback, though not a serious one, is that I now snore quite badly whereas I didn't when my tonsils were intact!

I understand some GP's are more reluctant than others to refer your to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for the consultation leading to a tonsillectomy, so first of all try another doctor at your practice!. They will be able to see from your records how many times you've had to visit for this problem!. Don't worry about asking to see a GP other than your own, it's a perfectly normal request!. Just be aware that it can be a horrible operation, and it may not end up the miracle cure that you want it to be!.

As you're in the UK you could of course consider going private if you have the means to do so - if it's decided that a tonsillectomy is the right course of action you will have much less of a wait going private than on the NHS!.

I certainly hope that you find a way to overcome these infections - I know how miserable it can make life, especially when everyone's reaction is to say "it's just a sore throat!.!.!."Www@Answer-Health@Com
