Promethazine - Anti Nausea drug that can double as a sleeping pill?!

Question: Promethazine - Anti Nausea drug that can double as a sleeping pill!?
I've read that one of the side effects of Promethazine (anti nausea drug) is that is can cause drowsiness!.!.!. But have any of you experienced a drowsiness to the point where you felt like you were LITERALLY going to pass out!? To the point where it might as well have been prescribed as a sleeping pill!?

I've had to leave work twice recently because I thought I was going to pass out!. First time I saw my doc and he ran a ton of blood work!. All ok!. Yesterday was the second time!.!.!. And yes, both times I had taken a Promethazine pill that morning!.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone else that has taken this med!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Well, personally I found Phenergan caused me to become extremely drowsy as well!. But that's not surprising, because one of the lesser known uses for the drug is as a light sedative to induce a light sleep you can easily arouse the patient from!. It used to be used to calm very nervous patients prior to a minor procedure, sometimes even for dental procedures!. So the fact you fall asleep isn't a real surprise!. Some people are more susceptible to that side effect than others, and it just depends on the person how drowsy "slightly drowsy" really ends up being!. It can also interact with other medications you are taking, and the effect can be enhanced in some cases!. The average adult dose is 25 mg, but depending on your tolerance and reaction, that dosage can be split in half and taken at two different times!. What you describe is not an unexpected effect of the drug, in fact, it's one of the reasons the drug is chosen sometimes!. Just work with your doctor to adjust the dosage or timing to work better for your needs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
