C. difficile, far away from home, in Montreal QC?!

Question: C!. difficile, far away from home, in Montreal QC!?
Hi all,

I've battled C!. difficile off and on since July of 2007!. I ended a long round of vancomycin in March and was told I was cured!.

Last night my bf convinced me to accompany him on a business trip to Montreal, even though I was feeling tired and nauseous!.

I woke up this morning with severe cramps and diarrhea!. I'm from Ontario!. Anyone have any experience with Montreal hospitals!? Advice!? I can't travel 7 hours by car home when I have to go to the bathroom constantly!.!.!.

I think I should go to the e!.r!. at Montreal General!.!.!.but I'm not sure they'll do anything for me!.!.!.helpWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am still on c difficile meds from contracting it from the hospital locally here in Montreal!.It was very bad a few weeks ago they had to isolate the entire floor!. I contracted it from being in hospital from cellulitis and there was only one patient on the same floor and I believe I contracted from a nurse who came and gave me a needle without gloves and she had on the same isolation gown which I didnt know what the new color gown meant!. So I am angry!. I am constantly fighting an episode I have been on two rounds of meds!. You will be placed in isolation without a doubt!. You should go right away to a hospital its too dangerous to wait!. I never went back to normal since I got the c difficile I mean I dont have diaherra but its a run situation when I need to go and I still have cramps on and off myself!. Of course I took activa yogurt which I sure didnt need and I paid for it!. Good luck with it its scary I know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I work in a hospital in the states, and yes, you would be placed in isolation!. I imagine that the ER would advise you to be admitted for more vanco!. It isn't unusual for a relapse, which is why I have never heard it referred to as cured!. In fact, if you were hospitalized for an illness not related to C!. Diff in my hospital, you would still be in isolation, regardless of your C!. Diff status!.

If you go to the ER they will have to do stool cultures which could take a couple days to come back!. You would have to remain in the hospital in isolation during this time!. (This is based on my stateside experience!.)

It is possible that you have a stomach virus of some kind, rather than a relapse!. I think you should call your physician and see what he/she recommends!.

Eventually you will have to make the grueling trip home anyway!. Start taking lacto basilius right away!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
