The HI (Hemagglutinin inhibition) is used in antigen-antibody reactions to measure the level of agglutination a particulate antigen induces!. When the antibody (IgM is particularly good due to its valence) comes in contact with the antigen it agglutinates and forms visible clumps!. When the antigen is an erythrocyte the term hemagglutination is used!. This test can be used to measure the level of antibodies to particulate antigens (maximum dilution of antigen that will form clumps is called titer!.) You need monoclonal antibodies for these tests to ensure especificity!.
H-Y antigen
