Why does Benedryl act like a sleeping pill?!

Question: Why does Benedryl act like a sleeping pill!?
Everytime I try to take a Benedryl in the day I get very dizzy and can BARELY stay awake, it was worse than the time I took a sleeping pill but my cat made me stay up! I would take it at night but it becomes ineffective by morning!. Should I switch to a different medicine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Benadryl has an ingredient in it, dyphenhydramine, which acts like a sedative!. In fact, it's also used in Tylenol PM in the same amount (25mg)!

You might want to switch to an allergy med that is less likely to cause drowsiness, such as Claratin or Alavert!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

look at the ingredients in sleeping pills!. Diphenhydramine!. Same as benedryl, only a higher dose!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Benedryl contains dyphenhydramine, this is naturally sedating!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
