Boil Water Notice?!

Question: Boil Water Notice!?
If our town is under a boil water notice, but I use a Brita filtration pitcher, do I still need to boil my water or is it safe to drink straight out of the Brita!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Boiling water is to kill off bacteria and fungal growths in the water supply, to ensure that the water is safe to drink, you should boil it for at least 5 minutes, not just bring it to the boil like a kettle does!.

Filtration systems like Brita do not filter out these properly, as they are generally too small for the filter to trap!.

You should boil the water, and then if you want to, filter after it has cooled down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The Brita filter is designed to remove chemicals that can be trapped in a charcoal filter!. That doesn't include bacteria or viruses!. You need to boil the water first, and then you can pour it through the Brita filter if you like!. Usually a boil water notice means there are E!.coli present in the water, and those won't be phased by the Brita filter!. If you have put water trhough it since you had the notice, change that filter out for a new one!. It's contaminated with the bacteria, and you could end up seriously ill!. If you can't boil the water, you can use plain bleach as well!. Use plain bleach- not the scented or thick stuff!. 8 drops of bleach for 1 gallon of water, or 1/2 teaspoon per 5 gallons!. Add the bleach to your water and let it sit 15 minutes!. Give it a sniff test!. You should still pick up a whiff of bleach!. In this case, that's good!. It means the bleach has killed off the gerbies and there is still enough left over!. If you don't smell bleach after 15 minutes, or the water was cloudy, add another dose the same size as the first!. Wait another 15 minutes and sniff again!. The water will taste like the pool, don't expect differently!. That taste is your guarentee of safe to drink water!. And it's perfectly safe, I assure you!. I used to treat water in odd areas when I was active duty, and this was the procedure we used!. I would drink it, and you can too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The Brita filter only takes out chlorine, lead and other chemicals from the water!.

If the town recommended boiling water because of a possible bacteria contamination, I would boil it and then you can filter the boiled water!.

To the best of my knowledge, Brita does not remove bacteria and parasites only metals and chemicals!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Brita filters out the odors of clorine etc I would say definitelly do boil the water and then if you still want to filter it is OKWww@Answer-Health@Com

The best way to answer your question is to take some water from your tap!. Take it to your local water store and they will test it for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
