Stomach Ulcers??!

Question: Stomach Ulcers!?!?
My husband was admitted to hospital in 2006, due to a perferated stomach ulcer, he was given Anti-biotics to heal the ulcer at the time, BUT yesterday he was admitted again with the same complaint - this time we new the symptoms so he was seen to sooner!. My question is - What are the chances of this happening again and what can be done to prevent it from re- occurring !?

Answers:
Peptic ulcers (stomach and duodenal) are notoriously chronic, recurring lesions!. Presence of gastric acidity is very important in the development of the disease!. About 70% of adults will have recurrences!. That's why there is a saying "once a peptic ulcer patient, always a peptic ulcer patient!."

Here are some facts about ulcers:
1!. Drugs such as aspirin or alcohol that predispose to ulcer formation and hemorrhage should be avoided!.
2!. Tobacco smoking is associated with delayed healing (and frequent relapse)!.
3!. The patient should eat a normal diet, avoiding only those foods that cause discomfort!. (Use of bland diet or avoidance of cola drinks, coffee, or spiced foods has not been shown to decrease acid secretion or hasten healing)!.

Suppression of gastric acidity is the most important factor in the treatment of ulcer disease, and antacids are the mainstay of medical management!. Other drugs like H2blockers are also use to suppress acid production!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had a bleeding ulcer some years ago!. When I went to the emergency room, first they cauterized it, tried meds, when that didn't work I had to have emergency surgery to stop the bleeding!. To keep it from flaring up again, they advised me to:
1!. avoid spicy foods
2!. take antacids
3!. quit smoking

Hope he feels better soon!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
