I think part of it may have been that they weren't born in the US!. Asians have a long history of having a longer life expectancy than those who are born in the Western world, and it is believed that a lot of it has to do with both diet and genetics!.
While they married American women, I would imagine that at least part of their long lives can be attributed to their diet--it's hard to break dietary habits that are established when young!. I also think that part of it may have been the fact that they were studied by so many doctors!. Their health was of great importance to a lot of people who hoped to learn from them and grow to understand their special "bond!."
And yes, I do think that there was something to the fact that neither of them was ever really alone!. There is plenty of evidence that twins who make it to adulthood and stay close to their twin both flourish with that relationship, and also tend to die for no good reason if their twin happens to die!.
