In answer to your first question, please read the following:

Sciatica is a set of symptoms including pain that may be caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve, or by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself!. The pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and/or various parts of the leg and foot!. In addition to pain, which is sometimes severe, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg!. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body!.

Although sciatica is a relatively common form of low back pain and leg pain, the true meaning of the term is often misunderstood!. Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve, causing the pain!. This point is important, because treatment for sciatica or sciatic symptoms will often be different, depending upon the underlying cause of the symptoms!.

In answer to the second question you have asked:

YES! The pain can be aggravated/caused by horseback riding!

At the age of 16, I would have to defer to a physician to give you any advice as to how to prevent/cure/ease this pain, however, Ice packs will sometimes reduce the inflamation and swelling, which in 99% of all cases is the actual cause of the pain!. Ibuprofen is also good to use!. Not only does it help with the pain but it is an anti-inflamitory drug, as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sciatica is a series of symptoms arising from compression of the 5 nerves leading to the sciatic nerve or to irritation of the sciatic nerve itself!.
It includes sometimes severe pain in lower back, buttock, leg & foot!. It can include numbness of the leg & foot or difficulty controlling the movement of one's leg!.

It is not a cause but symptoms of some underlying cause such as a bulging or herniated disc, spinal stenosis, etc!.
Usually, this can be determined by a lumbar MRI!.

If you are moving your back a lot as you ride it will cause blood to flow into the spinal canal causing the nerve to be compressed in the spinal canal as in spinal stenosis!.

I had sciatica & got rid of it by having acupuncture 2X/week for 2-3 months!.!.!.!.that was 9 years ago!
You can also try physical therapy where they will work to relieve the pain & teach you exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles which relieve back pain!.

Try ice on your back after riding!.
Take Advil or Aleve before riding, it will reduce any inflammation!.

Sciatica is the inflammatory process of the sciatic nerve( which runs along the leg)!.
Since it's a "compression of the nerve" it could be caused by horse riding!.
