Question: Choking but unconscious!?
A few weeks ago at work a client started choking!. I gave him the heimlich and the mint came up but he lost consciousness and i had to give him cpr!. he started breathing again quickly and it's all fine but it's been playing on my mind!. If he had collapsed before the obstruction came out what could I have done!? Surely no breaths would have gone in!. what could i do, would he have died!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If he had gone unconscious before the obstruction was out, you can still give abdominal thrusts while he is laying prone!. As soon as unconsciousness occurs, you should look in his mouth for a visible obstruction and then give abdominal thrusts (heimlich) using the palm of your hand!. If the object wouldn't have come out, then you would try to give mouth to mouth to try to push the object into his lungs!. (that's not good, but it's better than him dying from not breathing!)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What if you didn't know cpr!? What if you weren't there!? What if!? What if!? If he had collapsed before the mint came up then you would have dealt with the situation as best you could have given the circumstances!. Yes maybe he would have died but the point is, he didn't!.

Stop dwelling on this, don't live your life by "what ifs" move on , safe in the knowledge that you were there, you knew what you were doing and you saved this mans life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
