After 4 months I managed to have MRI test and it showed that I have bulged disc and have problem with another disc!. Hospital doctor suggested I have surgery!. However since then, my pain has gone and I am able to walk with stick!. I believe I am on the mend and I am not very keen on having the surgery!. I have not cancelled my appointment for surgery yet!. I hear that surgery is done at the last resort!. Does any body know if it is necessary for me to have the surgery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Call your hospital consultant and ask for an appointment to discuss your concerns!.!. Your right surgery is normally a last resort but there are some "red Flags" in back care that suggest surgery early to prevent long term nerve damage or paralysis!.!. Only your Doctor can explain with the MRI results what has lead to the surgery outcome at this time!. Tak a friend or family member with you for a pair of hears to back up yours!. The doctor will understand as it is a big decision!. Have you got an orthopaedic specialist or neurological surgeon !? if you want you can ask for a second opinion before committing to the knife

YES it is necessary!. My mother had a herniated disc too and had surgery on it about 4 years ago!. This was caused from a car accident she had 6 years ago!. They removed only part of the disc!. Your pain might be gone but the disc will only get worse!. The discs are probably pinching your nerves, so thats why you have pain and perhaps numbness in your legs!. My mother just had her second back surgery about a week ago to remove rest of the disc and have a spinal fusion!. She doesn't have the numbness in her legs anymore but is in alot of pain, luckily she has medication and muscle relaxers to help!. She might have to have another surgery though because she has another disc that is bad!. It shouldn't be long before you're back on your feet and working after your surgery!. I know they can give you cortizone shots or something like that to supress the pain but that wont change the fact you have a herniated disc!. From watching my mother, the longer you wait, the worse it gets!. Good luck!. =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Only you know if you really need surgery, I broke my back 18 yrs ago, and suffer back and leg pain!. Spinal fusion, I think that what ur talking about is an option, and you will be laid up for ages!. The only other option is painkillers, I've been taking Dihydrocodeine for ages!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It vis necessary to have surgery in order ti get better do not think that you will get better cause you can revert back to that condition that you were in at the beginningWww@Answer-Health@Com

Obviously, this is better discussed with your consultant!.!.!.!.he would be the best person to advise you!. You may feel that you are better, but this could be a recurring problem which only surgery will completely cure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would wait!. surgery is very invasive and i would use it only when all else has failed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
