Answers:
I often have a problem with anemia, and hate taking the iron pills, also!. Try taking them at night, so that when you're asleep, you're less likely to feel nausous!.

Maybe getting a good multi-vitamin that has a good amount of iron would settle better on your stomach!.

Only other suggestion is to start eating alot more foods that are high in iron!.!.!.that way you get your iron naturally!.

Iron Rich Foods

Beef, Pork, Lamb (Pick red meats that are lean)
Green Leafy Vegetables: Spinach, Asparagus, Broccoli, Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, Kale, Turnip Greens, Parsley, Cabbage
Certain fortied foods: Cereals, Oatmeal, Pasta, Rice, Grits
Liver, Tofu, Barley, Fish: Tuna Potato

Foods High In Iron

Salmon, Shrimp, Tuna, Oysters, Clams, and most kinds of seafood!.
Most kind of Dried Beans: Lima Beans, Kidney Beans, Navy Beans, Soy Beans, Chick Beans, Pinto Beans, Black Eye Beans
Nuts: Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds, Sesame, Tahini
Dried Fruits: Apricots, Rasins, Dates - Prunes, Figs
Turkey, Chicken, Egg YolksWww@Answer-Health@Com

You can try a second opinion!. If you need to take the iron, try crushing the tablet and sprinkling it on your food!. Try taking it with something bland, or cut it in half and take half in the morning and half in the afternoon!. You may have a different problem, such as your body can't absorb too much iron at one time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For the nausea you can suck on a peppermint candy!. As far as the iron pills, try eating some foods with a higher iron content!. Liver is VERY good for your iron, although I have to say, not too tasty!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try eating something before you take your med!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk to your pharmacist, there is the possibility that you are allergic to that brand of iron pill (different companies make different pills and I am allergic to certain company pills) I took iron pills when I was younger and even had to get iron shots twice a week because my iron was so low!. The Dr!. told my Mom to prepare all my food in an iron skillet!. I also had to drink 1 oz!. of grape wine before each meal and at bedtime, it really builds your iron up fast!. Eating before you take the pill is a good idea but the pharmacist may have a better suggestion like taking Mylanta or Pepto to coat the stomach!. if after talking to the pharmacist you don't get any answers, call your Dr!.again and tell him you cant take those pills, they make you too sick and he will have to prescribe something else!. Some Drs!. think they know it all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not a doctor (i'm a pre-med student), but I would inquire about alternatives to the medication!. I would be surprised if there was only one iron supplement drug!. Or perhaps you can take a lower dosage, depending on how mild/severe your condition is!.

I'd also recommend addressing what is causing your anemia!. Improving your diet may help your anemia and reduce the need for medication!. Iron deficiency anemia could be helped by eating more iron rich foods (such as meat)!. Also, anemia is not just from a lack of iron!. A lack of folic acid in your diet could also be a cause!. Make sure you also eat foods rich in folic acid (i!.e!. green/leafy vegetables)!. There are other causes, such as if you lose a lot of blood during menstruation!.

Hope you figure out a solution!Www@Answer-Health@Com
