Can you go off your medicine if you have OCD?!

Question: Can you go off your medicine if you have OCD!?
My husband is currently taking LUVOX for his OCD and its just 200 mgs once a day!. he is doing very well on this!. went to his doc last night and he said in 4 months he will start "backing off" his meds to see how he is doing and then eventually go off of it all together!. NOW i need to understand, i thought that OCD couldn't go UNMEDICATED since its not mental, its biological and can't be controlled without medication!? I know this isn't about me, but I am afraid!. can you offer any advice!? is the doc right!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is still about you because he is your husband and you have to live with him, and you should be worried!. I have certain OCD's and it makes me crazy and I am sure makes the man I live with crazy too, I am not to the extreme of being medicated, even though at times I would like to be!.

So as far as I know the medicine he is on he definitely needs to go off slowly as it is addictive to the body!. What I would do if I was you is watch him very closely and see if he starts to change as they are lowering his doses!. If you start to see anything write it down and report it to the Doctor!. If he seems normal, hopefully he will be OK!. I am guessing the medicine is not good to be one for the rest of his life or the Doctor wouldn't be suggesting he get off it, it may not be healthy to take the meds (even thought it is a low dose) for long periods of time!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
