Answers:
Aside from all the other answers you have gotten, which are correct- there is one other little fact that would prevent reusing the butterfly needle!. One post mentioned seeing blood in the tubing- and it would most certainly still have blood in it!. Clotted blood to be exact- which would prevent you being able to draw blood with that needle ever again- even if you were so inclined to try!. I don't know what's got you so worried about this, but I think you can be assured the butterfly needle used to draw your lab sample was used only on you, and then discarded!. And when you are done using a needle of any sort, the whole kit and kaboodle is dropped into a SHARPS container to be disposed of!. You don't rewrap a needle, because you don't want to poke yourself with a contaminated one, much less use it on another patient!. Breathe here!. It was all your personal butterfly needle and nobody elses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A butterfly needle is used on people with shallow veins, on children and the elderly!. Unless you live in some 3rd world country there are policies that new needles are always used in any blood procedure so that the draw is not contaminated!.
Nurses don't make mistakes like that and keep their job!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

she/he did not resuse it!.

don't worry!.

if it was already used, the catheter would show blood already on it!. almost impossible to get it out!.

and by the way - there are laws prohibiting the act such as the one you are worried about!.

i wouldn't worry!.

the needle was sterile and safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is possible but highly unlikely!. Staff are very aware of infections so take every step possible to make sure you are fine!. Try not too worry about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
