Eye gunk, eye boogers- it's all just the result of the salts left in tears which pooled up in the drain at the corner of your eye near the nose!. It mixes with sweat, skin cells sloughed off the eyelids, and makes for the crusty stuff you wash away in the mornings!. All natural, all part of being human!. Normally when you are awake and upright, the tears drain away easily- gravity works well!. Laying down, the drain doesn't work quite as efficiently, that's all!. The tear ducts dry and without the sinovial fluid washing the eyes the junk or crust builds!. Also, you may have mucus coming out and drying up!.
