Question: If a person has been deaf all their life and has never heard a word, what do they think in!?

This is basically the case of Helen Keller, although she was blind and mute as well!. She never understood what anyone was trying to tell her, until her aide ran her hand through water, and gave her the sign language for water in her hand!. It was a very complicated process!.
I wonder this too, except with animals!. What do they think!? They can't read any language, can't be understood, don't understand any spoken language except their own!. When they see you getting out the food, how can they know "This is food" if they can't speak English!? When you are thinking, you think in English, don't you!?
All I know is that I couldn't live like that!. Then again, maybe I could, as it would be all I knew, and wouldn't know that for others it was different!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think they think in signs (ASL) once they learn them!. I had a deaf student once, for a computer class I was teaching!. She was reading her directions and signing a little as she was reading!. Kind of like someone mumbling to themselves as they are reading!. I wondered the same thing, but after seeing her do this, I felt she was thinking in sign language!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
What language you mean!? I don't know, thats actually a really good question!. I would think that they rely on the one thing they do have, sight!. Deaf people probably are much better at stringing together mental images than us normal hearers, and they probably think in pictures!.

Maybe deaf people think in actions!. I mean!.!. it is probably the same way they live their life!. They see someone cross the street!. So if they are thinking about someone who crossed a street they probably see that image in their head!. Maybe not!. Just a thought!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
