When it comes to donating blood...?!

Question: When it comes to donating blood!.!.!.!?
If you're 20 pounds underweight, can you still donate blood!? I've got mixed answers on this before!. I know that you have to weigh 105 pounds but what if the person is over 105 pounds but still underweight!? Can they still not!? If they can, would it cause any complications if they gave blood!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Jess_85 is correct!. The blood bank will take your blood (600 ml or 1 pint) so long as you above the minimum weight (55kgs for women -- 121 pounds) although they will take a lower amount of 400ml if you are only 50 kgs (110 pounds)!. The other factor is your haemoglobin level (whether you are anaemic or not) which is minimum of 11 for women and 12!.5 for men!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i donate blood on a regular basis, and as far as i know, as long as you weigh more than the minimum, and you are not anemic (low iron) you can donate!. I don't see why it owuld be a problem, and if it is the nurses will let you know why it's a problem and why it might not be safe for you to donate!. I say go to the red cross, answer the huge questionaire, they will poke your finger and get a small sample to test your iron, tell them how much you weigh, and let them decide!. i honestly don't see it being a problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends really!. As to why you are underweight!. And if you really are unhealthy or not!. Certain blood factors have to be at a certain level to donate, and those do correspond with your health!.
I personally don't think 20 lbs underweight (according to BMI, body weight, and body fat percentage testing all together) is any healthier than being over weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you can if you are over the age limit!.!.!. and as long as your other tests (the one for iron) come out OK you should be able to!. And since you are under weight you would probably want to eat something before hand and make sure you grab an extra juice and cookie afterwards!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Possibly, they would probably take less from you than they would from someone at a healthy weight though or it'll weaken you too muchWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, underweight does not mean you are an anemic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they would still take your bloodWww@Answer-Health@Com
