How much does drug rehab change the person? besides sobriety?!

Question: How much does drug rehab change the person!? besides sobriety!?
there is someone in my life I care for deeply!.
he has been on and off drugs for most of his life!. he was clean for a long time and has done some more recently (coke)
he is doing well for himself professionally, but the drugs keep getting the better of him!.
he has checked himself into rehab, and i am curious as to what to expect while he is there (for him) and when he is out (for me) and what I can do to help him stay sober!.
people have told me to expect our friendship to be very different or no more, is this something I should prepare for!?

I would give him up in a heartbeat if I knew that he would stay clean and sober!. I just want him well!.

any input or experience would be great! thank you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
As an addiction counselor, and the mother of an addict, I will tell you that drug rehab is the "easy" part of being sober!. Spending 28 days in a clinic is a cake walk compared to living the "sober" life in the real world!. Sobriety is usually a process made up of periods of abstinence and indulgence !.!.!. with periods of abstinence getting longer and longer!. Most people do not go to rehab, come out, and live sober lives without relapse!. You have probably heard this before, but relapse is part of recovery!. I suggest you check into the HBO series (with the NIH) on addiction!. Educate yourself, learn about co-dependence, attend Al-anon!. You can help him stay sober by NOT enabling him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
