First of all, Thank you for taking your time at looking at my question,

My best friend (Age 16) is having a problem, She was told that she is Anorexic, but thankfully she is starting to eat again and I'm really happy, BUT every time she eats her "Stomach" doesn't take it, and she then Vomits what she ate!.

Now she cannot take any pills, it makes her vomit,

1!. Is there anything to cure this!? what is it!?
2!. If medication can be taken, is there anything else then pills/capsules!? If there are pills please tell me!.
3!. The most important one, Will SHE BE OK!?

I am 16 as well,I'm a guy and her best friend and i really care A LOT about her, we have told her to go to the Hospital but she says no, what can i DO!? Should call the hospital and ask them!?

I would really appreciate all of your help and support,,, i am really sad and i am praying for her!. Once again, Thank you for tacking the time to answer, and please no "Idiotic" answers, please be mature about this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am always suspicious when someone with an eating disorder blames vomiting on an upset stomach!. More times than not, that is just an excuse to not get the calories down the hatch because they are still terrified of gaining weight!.
If solid foods are the biggest problem, you can always push a lot of liquids!. A nutritionist can recommend combinations of high cal milkshakes that may be easier to keep down assuming she is not lactose intolerant!.

There are a number of medications that come in liquid form (Prozac) and a dissolving tab (remeron), sort of like one of those after dinner mints!. Both would be very reasonable choices if she is having trouble keeping actual pills down!. Remeron may be a particularly good choice since it tends to stimulate appetite and the way it effects certain neurochemicals, it can actually diminish nausea and vomiting!. I've used it with a number of people with anorexia!. The problem is that the medications tend not to be very effective until the person gets a little closer to their ideal body weight so its important she keeps the calories down!.

BTW, if she hasn't thanked you lately, please let me thank you, on her behalf, for being supportive!. Anorexia is a very difficult and dangerous illness and she is very lucky to have friends that are supportive!.

ADD: All of the antidepressant have the risk of causing suicidal ideation!. This is usually due to one of two reasons-the person has an undiagnosed bipolar disorder and you have made them manic or the meds are working but the person's energy improves before the mood and now they have the energy to kill themselves!. It should be noted that there are a lot of factors that go into that warning and there has been no proof whatsoever demonstrating a causal link between antidepressants and actual completed suicides!. In fact, during the late 90s and into about 2004, antidepressant prescription among children increased and the suicide rate among that age group went down significantly!. When all of this press came out about the risk of suicidal ideation in kids, many parents took their kids off of antidepressants!. When you look at the stats for completed suicide, the rate of suicide in kids/teens has started to increase again and the turn around happened at about the time that antidepressant prescription dropped off!. You also need to remember that 80% of antidepressants in the country are prescibed by PCMs who may miss some subtleties that would be picked up by the shrink so the numbers are skewed!.

I'm an inpatient psychiatrist!. Most of the people I see have come to me because they have tried to kill themselves or are thinking about it!. Many are very young, 17 or 18, and some have eating disorders!. I would not hesitate to start your friend on meds if she was in my office!. This is a very serious illness and in fact it has the highest rate of mortality of any psychiatric illness!. I appreciate the anxiety about the meds but I would say that at this point, you cannot know whether not being on the meds would put her at risk for trying again!. If she has not made contact with a therapist, a psychiatrist and a nutritionist, she needs to be moving in that direction!. As for the vomiting, many "good" anorexics and bulimics are able to make themselves throw up without meds and without using their finger so the gagging that she is doing still does not mean that she may not be doing this on her own!.

I recommend a workbook called "Overcoming anorexia"!. Its a CBT based workbook that is helpful for some people!. Also, this is a web links that may be helpful for you as someone who is trying to be supportive!.

There is pretty much no medications for this problem, but there are clinics that will help her get on the right foot!. Try to look on the internet for places or brochures for such places to be found!. I'm truly sorry for your problem with your friend and my prayers go out to you!. Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like your friend is bulimic!. I would talk to an adult or someone who would be able to do something about it like her parents!. She may be mad at first, but she will thank you in the long run!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She needs a medical doctor!. She needs a mental health professional!. IF she is truly anorexic, someone should have noticed and got her help by now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

this doesnt sound true!.!.!.she may be making herself do it!.talk to her mom!.she may be eating for show and then purging!.she needs counselingWww@Answer-Health@Com

As her best friend, you should tell her that you love her and are concerned about her life because Anorexia is a life-threatening disease/disorder!. As her BFF, you would do anything to make sure she was safe from all harm, including harm that she does to herself!. My suggestion is this: give her an ultimatum, after you have determined that she understands completely that you love and care for her (she would do the same for your, right!?) She is to tell her parents, or you will!. She needs to be hospitalized if she cannot hold down any food!. Her veins and arteries are close to collapsing!. If her veins and arteries do collaspe, then the next step is death!. The hosptial will put a tube in her nose to thread it down into her stomach!. She will be restrained to keep from pulling it out!. They will slowly *feed* her liquids through the tube until she gains a couple of pounds!. She will also be required to attend counseling as she views herself as ugly and fat and disgusting!. (Something happened in her life to make her look at herself that way, ok!? This isn't something that she did to herself on purpose!. Maybe it was a well-meaning, but thought less parent that told her she always looked fat when she was a cute, little pudgy 5-year old, but these things do tend to stick in our minds!. Or she could have been raped/molested!. This is out of your bounds to help her!. She needs professional help now!.)

Do this tonight!. No matter how late it is, NOW!.

(If she cannot hold down pills, nothing you can give her or make her take will help!. Her body is rejecting nourishment, ok!?)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would call the hospital!. They have more knowledge and more resources than any of us on here!. Ask them and I'm sure they can help you and tell you what you can do to help your friend out!. Can she keep down liquids!? Maybe she should start with protein shakes, stuff like that!? But If she doesn't want to get help from the hospital, maybe she isn't over her disorder yet!? I definetely think your best bet would be to call the hospital!. I'm sorry that you are so upset! I would be worried sick if it were my best friend!. Good luck! I'll pray for her too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She has a real big problem!!! It may be all in her head!. What I mean when I say that, she thinks she is fat and to get every one off her back she will eat, then go throw it up and just tell people " for some strange reason, I am sick when I eat!." She really should go get help!. Try to make her drink Ensure!. Its a milk shake type drink you can buy at Walmart over by the vitamins, this will help her gain a little weight and it has lots of vitamins in it!. but don't tell her that, or it "will make her sick," I really think its a mined thing!. I use to have the same problem and I was put in the hospital 3 different times and they just made me drink the Ensure!. good luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
