Why single out nurses!? What about doctors, receptionists, cleaners, porters, care assistants!? Nurses are on the front line of health care and out of all the professions allied to medicine, come in for the most abuse!. Perhaps you caught them on a particularly stressful day, but if you are unhappy about you or your relative's treatment I would urge you to lodge a formal complaint!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sometimes it's just a bad day!. Sometimes it's a bad nurse!. Sometimes it's a good nurse that's been putting up with 5 bad nurses all day and picking up the slack as best as she can, and she didn't even get a lunch break or a pat on the back!. !.!.!.There's no excuse for nurses to be uncaring to patients ever!. ever!. Best way to take care of a rude nurse is to give her a pat on the back, a smile, and tell her "I know you're doing the best you can do!." Maybe it will make her day, or maybe it will make her realize her "best" is being hateful and rude!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think this is just unfortunate!. Maybe that hospital isnt a great place to work and this makes those particular nurses not too nice!. I spent a lot of time in hospital last year and was in 5 different hospitals and was lucky enough to have every nurse I met lovely!. I tend to find its the doctors/consultants who appear rude and make it blatantly obvious that they have no time to spend with you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having spent a good deal of time in hospitals I would like to say that nurse's attitude and care in general are of a very high standard in my expereince!.However like all walks of life you get those who do not care and are down right rude!.On the other side of the coin there is the attitude of some patients towards nursing staff which is deplorable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some people just aren't nice people or might be having a real bad day!.!.!.!. I agree though Ive seen some very mean nurses and doctors, I think in that profession it should be a requirement to have a decent personalty because the last thing someone who is in the hospital needs is a rude person to care for them!Www@Answer-Health@Com

only some nurses were like that!.!.but yes, many people complaining about some of their attitude towards patient!.!.i believe they need to handle many patients in a day and some patients were hard to handle especially the old one!.!.maybe they were tired and can't pay good attention to all patients!.!.because they are human too and they have emotion!.!.*Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm training to be a nurse, and i have to agree with you!. some of them are really rude and theres no need fr it!. I don't like none of them on my ward!. Their good on the medical sideof things, but their very nice r compassionate with it!. Now why go into this job if you have no communication skills!? i just hope i dont end up like that, i dont plan too xWww@Answer-Health@Com

its true!.!.everywhere in each business there people who work to earn money!.!.!.very few who work to earn faith!.!.!.anyways!.!.GOD is greatWww@Answer-Health@Com

in 2004 my father had a stroke (at 54 yrs) - he's ok now! I spent two weeks at his bedside and was witness to one of the most degrading things I think I have ever seen!.

Because of the stroke he was on a ward (at QA hospital, Porstmouth) full of older persons!. The nurses we had to deal with were all foreign and spoke very little english!. At best I would describe them as rude!.

Many patients were scared and lonely and the nurses did nothing to help them!. At feeding time, their food was left out while they went and had a gossip at the nurses station and that was it!. Many of the people in the room could not feed themselves!. It got so bad that myself and my step mum (an ex nurse herself) fed an elderly man his food!.

This same man was left in a disgraceful situation that made me weep!. He pressed his call button and was ignored for 20 minutes!. At which point he kept calling out - he needed to go to the toilet!. He was left again!. We tried to grab a nurse but were too late!. When the nurse saw he had pooed himself she screamed and shouted at him and went to get another nurse!. they left him there for a further 1/2 hour!. When the cleaned him - they did not close the curtains!. They stripped him naked, covered in poo in front of the whole ward!.!.!. continuously mubbling foreign insults at him!. It was horrific!. I got so angry that I closed everones curtains on the ward to try to give this guy some dignity!.

Saying that, for a few days we were lucky enough to have some nurses who were drafted in from the local Haslar Hospital!. They have much different standards there and believe they even employ a Matron!. These nurses were brilliant!. They were rushed off their feet but managed to keep all the patients happy - the patients were even offered a cup of tea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not a nurse but YOU try working a 12 hour shift and see how caring and chirpy you feel!.

My sister in-law is a nurse at Preston Hospital and she works three 12-hour shift in a row each week!. She works in the ICU and most nights she comes home exhausted not from the work or running about all day - but emotionally drained from all the suffering, grief and family pain she has to deal with!.

They're doing their best - so maybe the next time you are unfortunate enough to be in hospital ask a nurse if she'd like a cup of tea as you're on your way to get yourself one - and see the smile you get then!!

Hi there,
I am a nurse (over 18 years experience) and work in a care home that nurses people aged from 45 - 107!
I am always so sad but angry to hear that there are nurses out there that are rude, uncaring and hostile as it gives us all a bad reputation!. There is NO EXCUSES for rudeness or uncaring attitudes at all!. Why they are rude is beyond me but i suspect it is because they are allowed to be rude!. If I were a matron of a ward i would have zero tolerance of any rudeness!.
There is no excuses even if they are having a bad day or are stressed it is still not an excuse to take it out on a patient is it!!
I have been verbally abused, kicked and punched before by residents and i still would never be rude!.
I think that the empathise today on nurse education and training is more academic than when i trained so often some do not seem to learn the ethics of good manners and empathy towards the patient!.
I treat each patient i look after as if they were my family!. I also think it's a great privilege to look after these people!.
My advise to you is that if you do experience seeing a nurse be rude then speak up and complain!. Patients are there to be looked after not abused verbally!.
If you have a serious complaint then contact the NMC (Nurse midwifery council) abusing patients is misconduct!. You can also complain to the ward managers and the Cheif Executive of the hospital!.
Please do report any horrible, nasty nurses as we don;t want them!

Miss H ------ I am appalled by what you saw at QA Hospital Portsmouth and I hope you did complain and report this!. Those nurses neglected and abused this man and should be reported to the NMC who I suspect would strike them of the nursing register (meaning they would never nurse again)!. I live only 20 minutes away from QA Hospital!. IF I had witnessed that I would have gone straight to the cheif executive of the hospital and the NMC!. Nurses like that are SCUM!Www@Answer-Health@Com

because they are on their feet 8+ hrs a day low pay,and very understaffed!.!.!.!.i was so glad to leave the hospital and those "uncaring" personal!. it made me take care of my health a little better!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
