Can you faint while being conscious?!

Question: Can you faint while being conscious!?
Hi i'm 17 and i've never fainted before,

Today my mother accedently stabbed herself in the wrist while washing up, i saw her wound and started to feel ill, so i thought this might be the cause!.

After about 5 minutes (i had time to go upstairs, search for a bandage and come back down again) my vision went black and i couldn't stand up anymore, there was also a ringing in my ears!.

After another 5 minutes i started seeing shadows of people again and 5 minutes after that i was back to normal only with a headache!.

During the 5 minutes i couldn't see i kept consciousness, i could hear my family and respond to what was being said (although it was an effort to do so) even with the ringing in my ears and i was wondering what it was,
i'm not sure if i fainted or not because i always thought to faint you have to lose consciousness

could anyone tell me what it was!?

thanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you had a blackout!. My sister went temporary blind once even though she was conscious!. It must have been very scary for you!. I hope you are feeling bettter soon!. x Edit - Sorry, yes and your Mum xxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

You were probably about to faint, but were able to regain control!. I've blacked out before and before I actually do, I get this ringing in my ears and I starts to see spots of colors and really light headed!. Usually when you black out, you wake up from an unconscious state and you usually don't even realize that you've blacked outWww@Answer-Health@Com

I think you may have had some shock and if you rushed up stairs to get some dressing for her arm maybe all of it put together took a big shock panic attack on your body, if it is still giving you bother i'd go to your gp, although if not i think it may have just been the whole experience taking a toll on your body!.

Hope you feel better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
