Why do scabs itch?!

Question: Why do scabs itch!?
Answers:
Well, it isn't the scab that itches (obviously), it's the skin immediately around it!. It itches for two reasons: 1!. The wound is healing, and I don't know why, but that always makes things itch; and 2!. (at least in my case) I've noticed that if you don't keep some kind of moisturizer on it (vitamin E cream is best because it prevents scarring) it dries around the edges and pulls away from the scab, so you've got the dry skin itch and the pulling itch combined with the healing itch!. So it's just itchy itchy itchy all the way around!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think its not the scab that causes the itching!. The activities underneath the scab which undergoes repair and healing process release certain substances or chemicals that excite the nerves that make you itch!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

because when the skin around them starts to heal, it starts to pull inwards causing breakages in the skin which makes it itchyWww@Answer-Health@Com

Wow!. That's an interesting question!. I never thought of that!. Hopefully you get more answers!. Sorry I'm no help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
