i dont want to be rude and not hang out with him!.!.!. but he has a bad habit of smoking though!. i tried asking him jokingly about stopping but i dont want to sound like a mom or something by commanding him to stop!.

You can, but it's not the healthiest option!. Your asthma will always be aggravated by the smoke!. Frankly, if he's a friend, why can't he try to cut back when he's with you, excuse himself or make sure it's not blowing right at you!?
