Doctors must save life when it is possible!. It's the law!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It would depend on the person's insight and mental capacity!. If a person is psychologically unwell, and unable to understand fully the consequences of what they are doing to themselves, then you could argue that it is society's responsibility to care for them and help them understand and develop insight into what is happening to them!. You have to ask yourself, if they were psychologically well, would they chose to do this to themselves!? If the answer is no, then health services have a duty of care to help this person!.

If you think about it, eating disorders are usually the result of issues such as self-esteem, self image or a coping mechanism for past abuse etc!. It could be argued that in these cases, help should be given to these people to overcome these issues!.

In my experiences, hospitals arent there JUST to force people to eat!. Whilst addressing the issue of eating, they also use therapy and counselling to work throught the problems that are causing the disorder!. The aim is not to make people's lives hell, but to guide them to a place where life is enjoyableWww@Answer-Health@Com

In terms of the human rights act we have a right to life and not to death! Therefore if someone is not eating then they are practically choosing to die, which is not inline with the law!. Healthcare professionals have to obey this law and by that they have to preserve life and not death!.

They would only do this in extreme circumstances, not just from being underweight but from having an eating disorder which has caused them to endanger their lives!. The patients with eating disorders usually have psychological backgrounds to the onset of their illness and as a result are not seen as able to have the capability to decide this for themselves which is when the next of kin takes over!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If someone goes into hospital, they'd have to be seriously underweight, and they would only resort to force feeding if the person refused to eat the food, and it was getting to the point they will die if thia action isn't taken!. (also it's not the hospital making there lives hell, it's themselves by getting into such an insecure mental state that they would rather kill themselves through starvation and malnutrition, than living a happy holesome nutriciuos life style!. a lot of this is due to nasty bitchy little girls being very jealous, mean and horible, after a lot of bullying you begin to believe it!) some people would probably make the comment that noone in there right mind would want to eat hospital food, but i have been in and out of hospital a lot recently and i think the food is good!. so tell your friend that noone would be forced fed unless they refuse to eat, and noone would be admitted into hospital unless they are dangerously underweight as our NHS, need every bed they can get and it costs the govenment a lot of money to pay for a person to be in hospital, so the hospitals have to be very picky who they admit to a degree, as they need the beds for the really ill, people who have an operation in the day ('day surgery' ), have to get on a robe sit in a public waiting room on a plastic chair until the surgeon is ready for them, then they are wheeled on a trolley into theater and out again on the trolly to the first stage of recovery then after that (15 mins ) they are wheeled out on a wheel chair, then they sit in a recliner chair for an hour in stage 2 of recovery! these people have had an operation and don't get a bed so they will definatly not give a bed to someone who's a little underweight!. xxxxxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

It can give them time to think about life!.People are temporarily
psychotic at times due to addictions etc!. I was at a low ebb and thought of all sorts but now I am well I thank people for keeping me around!. I agree though it is a tough one because it could be argued its the right of the person not to eat if they wish!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can not force feed someone unless they are under the care of the local authority or been sectioned!.
a person in hospital has to give their consent to treatment, if they are un-able to give consent then the next of kin must!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NO the hospital force fed my grandad when he had bowel cancer and mrsa and infection and it made the rest of his life hell xWww@Answer-Health@Com

if they are so under weight that it effects thier health that much, then yes!.!.!.!. the hospitle are legaly abliged to "help"Www@Answer-Health@Com
