Answers:
Your body uses calcium bicarbonate for metabolic processes!. Each supplement calcium requires multiple steps to be converted to the usable form!. There are three types of calcium on the market right now!.
Calcium Carbonate is the most available (drugstores) and is the least absorbable!. Calcium citrate is more easily absorbable and is fairly common in drugstores!. Calcium Lactate is the most easily absorbable and is available through physicians, chiropractors and some alternative healthcare providers!. The best I know of is from a company called Standard Process!. You can read about it at their website www!.standardprocess!.com

edit to the poster below:
Some antacids contain calcium carbonate, a rock, and are advertised as calcium supplements!. Calcium carbonate is an insoluble salt that must be ionized by stomach acid before it can be absorbed!. About 40 percent of post-menopausal women (who are often concerned about osteoporosis) are severely deficient in stomach acid and can only absorb about 4% of the calcium in this form!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Being on a limited income (retired) I use the cheapest!. Your body needs vitamin D to use the calcium no mater what kind you take!. I take the cheapest generic multi daily vitamin and generic Tums!. I take the vitamin as directed and I take the tums two tabs 2-3 times a day!. I buy the generic stuff from Wal-Mart!. Look at the ingredients on the back of the anti acid bottle you will be surprised how much calcium there is in them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
