X-ray...bone scan... MRI??!

Question: X-ray!.!.!.bone scan!.!.!. MRI!?!?
I had an x-ray on my ankle, and the doctor found an abcess/cyst or something!. He sent me to get a bone scan to find out what it is!. I got the bone scan, and the results came back inconclusive!. Now, I have to go get an MRI!.
What will an MRI pick up that the bone scan didn't!?
It's hard to find anything out about MRIs and such of the ankle by doing searches; I've tried!. Doctors, Radiologists, Techs, Nurses Please! Or anyone with personal experience!. Or answer if you are a better searcher than me and found something lol!.!.!. THANKS! Also, should I be worried that the bone scan didn't distinguish it as something, and the MRI picks up more serious things!? If this helps, I have a history of spraining(never breaking) this ankle, and a year ago the cyst thing wasn't there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Each of these tests picks up slightly different data, so together they give a better picture!. MRIs are particularly good for soft tissues around the joints--ligaments, tendons, etc, fluids etc!. Xrays are good for bones and obvious fractures but can miss things that are less obvious as it is just a flat picture in shades of gray!. Bone scans use a radio label that is taken up by rapidly changing cells--rapidly growing or breaking down; so it is good for detecting subtle fractures, tumors etc!. But that is all!. The uptake of the tracer is all that is imaged!. You do not get a picture like a MRI--that looks almost like a 3 D model of the inside of you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
