There's no doubt it's a profession, though it is a profession that deserves more money and respect than it seems to get at present!. I'll second the notion that it's both science and art!. There are many arcane facts that need to be in a nurse's head so they can protect their patients from mistakes in prescriptions and such like!. (e!.g!. This order calls for an inappropriate amount of insulin!. Check to find out what the doctor really had in mind!. Or, hey, this medicine is incompatible with grapefruit juice!. The patient's breakfast needs to be adjusted to reflect that)!.

My fiance is a nurse and she takes great pride in keeping her terminally ill patients alive and "well" far beyond the expectations of the doctors!. There's much more to it than meds and physical care!. Keeping the patient in good spirits can make a huge difference in their prognosis!.

One aspect of nursing that I think is often overlooked is that it is a physically demanding job!. Assisting patients takes more than a little physical strength and if you do it wrong, you can screw up your back big-time!. The profession also tends to come with extreme long hours!.

Give a nurse a hug!. If they're doing well today, they deserve it!. And if their day has gone badly, they need it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have been a nurse for 25 years and I really enjoyed my profession!.I am retired now but still have opportunities to help others at times!.Some of nursing is an art while some of it is scientific!.You really need to be caring, organized, intelligent, patient, have a sense of humor, be compassionate, and be willing to work hard!.Most nurses I have worked with are very professional but like other jobs there are a few that just don't make the cut!.I have also been a patient many times and I have found that most nurses are very good at their jobs - maybe it is because of a different perspective being a patient!.My career has given me many chances at making a difference in someone's life and there is nothing better than being able to change a person's life circumstances for the better!.There are also the hard days when you cannot help, these are very difficult but you learn from them!.I wish I could still work but I cannot!.I graduated from nursing school in 1983 and nursing back then was more hands on than it is now!.I think the toughest part today is being short-staffed and having a heavy workload- it can bring you down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i graduated last April with a degree of BSN!.!.!.

Nurses don't just focus on the disease that the patient has, it cares HOLISTICALLY!.!.!. We focus on the client physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually!.!.!.

Nursing is both science and art!.!.!. it is based on a body of knowledge, theories and principles!.!.!.

Nurses ROCKS!! hehehe
