Why can't I wear makeup during surgery?!
Question: Why can't I wear makeup during surgery!?
I'm having laparoscopic outpatient surgery in a few days and I can't wear makeup!. I know one reason is so they can monitor your skin color while you are out!. But is it really wrong to wear a little concealer on some red spots and some powder!? Don't tell me I'm having surgery and who cares what I look like!. It's just that I never go out of the house with at least some foundation, concealer, powder and chapstick!. I can get over the eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Makeup powers and creams can flake off particles that cause contamination of equipment or can cause infection!. The idea is to have a clean, sterile, contained environment to operate!. You certainly don't want to end up with a bad infection just because of vanity!. You can put your make up on after you wake up if you feel like it!. also think about it - you concealer and powder and been handled with your hands etc and have been on your face!. Studies have show that these things are a breading ground for bacteria!. If you wear these things into the operating room's sterile environment you can potentially bring the bacteria in with it!. Then they poke the holes in you to insert the instruments and now you have an open wound and bacteria!. Just do exactly what the doctors say!. Any kind of negative reaction from the anesthesia or any other kind of drug they give you during a surgery appears on your skin and fingernails!.

Get over yourself! No one in the OR cares how you look!. It sounds to me as if your issues are deeper than a laparoscopy can reach!.
