What's the difference between a panic attack and an anxiety attack?!


Question: What's the difference between a panic attack and an anxiety attack!?
I think I had one or the other last night!. Though I don't know why!. I was laying in bed trying to sleep!. I had on a sleep-mask because it helps sometimes!. All of a sudden I got this intense pain in my chest, my heart started to race and the pain went down into my abdomen!. I sat up in bed, tore off my sleep mask and sat there with my mind in a whorl!. I was wondering what to do!. Do I call 911, do I call my husband!? Am I having a heart attack!? Before I could decide, I noticed the pain was starting to subside!. It took a while longer for my heart rate to slow down!. But it finally did and I finally fell asleep!. I don't know what caused this or what to do if it happens again!. Any suggestions!? A panic attack is a slightly more modern word for an anxiety attack; they're the same thing!. I think they started to be spoken about commonly in public and to be called panic attacks in the 80s!.

What you describe does sound a lot like the classical description of a panic attack!. Since it's only happened once, I don't think I'd necessarily suggest anything - it only happened once!. The fear of panic attacks, which can induce panic attacks, leads to agoraphobia with panic attacks, which is not a fun condition!. And you don't have it, so don't talk yourself into it!. :)

Antidepressants are often used to treat panic attacks, so that it might be unusual, though certainly not impossible, that your drug caused one!. I think the main thing I'd do would be to get my heart checked out, for safety if something is wrong or, more likely, for peace of mind in case it should happen again!.

If you find you have regular panic attacks, cognitive-behavioral therapy works wonders, and one of the only two self-help books I don't think is silly is David Burns' "The Feeling Good Handbook", which describes cognitive approaches to dealing with, among other things, panic attacks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That sounds like a panic attack -- or possibly a symptom of heart problems!. Did you have a particularly stressful event happen recently that may have brought it on!?

Well, you don't mention your age!. This can happen in perimenopause!. I don't know what else brings it on but I have had them (one in the same I think) on and off for years!.

Panic and anxiety attacks are primarily the same, and often times (most often) are symptoms of repressed issues or fears!.

The anti-depressants are not likely to be causing these experiences, more likely they are part and parcel of your depression!. It seems like people that are depressed are more likely to experience them vs people that are not depressed!.

It is worthwhile to get a professional medical opinion about your pain!. While there, tell them of your experience in detail!.

Depression, panic, social issues and low self esteem are often parallel issues, having witnessed them in multiple depressed patients and anti depressant medication users!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The difference is simple: anxiety attacks are caused by an illness called Anxiety!. They start when the person with anxiety comesinto contact with something he/she fears, or feels a somewhat strong negative feeling about!. It can be a very normal thing, depending on the level of anxiety!. These come from nowhere, and an undiagnosed anxiety person does not know it comes from, confusing them!. Sometimes the person doesn't even know what they are afraid of!. This condition is rare, but as far as I know, anyone can have it!. Also, these attacks increase in frequency if left untreated!.

Panic attacks are caused when a person comes into contact with something he/she deeply fears!. It is not linked to any illness!. It can also be called hysterics!.

What you described can be an attack, but doesn't really sound like one, as your mind was clear enough to realise that somethign was happening and to try and find a solution!. I think it was a reacton to something happening inside your body!. It could have been a warning sign to somehting bigger!. Sounds like a panic attack, or anxiety attack, both are really the same!. I suffered from them for years, first one was in a nightclub, packed on a hot summer night, been in there hours, when all of a sudden I just had to get out in the fresh air!. It was in the basement, and nothing and nobody got I'm my way!. As soon as I was in the air I started to calm down!.
After that I had them off and on for 30yrs, the best thing is learning to get used to them!. They can be terrifying and so real, and if you have never had one, you can not understand!.
The best thing for me was learning a relaxation method, took a long time for it to come naturally, but it did and I learnt to cope with them!. Its the feeling of being out of control that frightened me!.
I had one when I was on a blind date, there was me my friend and these two guys!. We were sat at a table and I felt one coming on, so just slipped into a calm place!. One of the guys noticed, and my mate, bless her, said don't worry she is a clairvoyant, and has been taken over for a while !!!!!!
They thought I was wonderful!.
