Primary Prevention Strategies (PPS) - aims at redusing d incidence (new cases) of a disorder by reducind its associated risk factors!.For example, providing smallpox immunization for health care workers is a PPS that will prevent d disease from occuring in this group!.
Secondary Prevention Strategies (SPS) - aims at reducing d severity of a disorder!. For example, mammography is a SPS!. It does not prevent breast cancer from occuring, but because it permits early identification &treatment of d disease, it ultimately reduces d personal &medical costs of treatment!.
Tertiary Prevention Strategies (TPS) - is a strategy aimed at improving d outcome of an existing disorder!.!.!.For example, an educational program for mentally ill adults aimed at helping them enter d work force does not prevent d condition nor reduce its severity!. However TPS can improve d outcome for a patient with mental illness as well as reduce d cost to society of caring for that person!.
