The reason they cover their body is due to repeated exposure!.
Your OK for short durations of X-ray radiation but like any radiation you can't expose yourself over and over again!.
For this reason they wear protective clothing!.
The X-rays are radioactive waves that are longer than harmful gamma rays but shorter then UV rays!.
They can be harmful in quantity as they are known as ionizing radiation - they can knock electrons and other particles from their atomic orbit!.
