Good news is that your wound will heal just fine if it already is on the way!. In fact, if a wound is very dirty and cannot be cleaned or is associated with certain animal bites, a doctor will not sew it close anyway!. It sounds like you probably COULD have gotten stiches!.
The only thing this is going to effect is how big the scar is!. Your body is healing from the "inside out" by making what we call "granulation tissue"!. It is probably pink and red with occasional itching!. If you had gotten sutures then the scar would have been a lot less!. As it is, you will have a scar over the whole area you had cut!.
A hint for reducing how big the scar gets is that you should put a little sunscreen over it whenever you go outside!. It takes a full year for a scar to completely "mature" and make it look like what it will for the rest of your life!.
At this point, consider yourself healed!. You can get in salt water with no problem!. Once the hole fills in completely the scar will start to "mature" like I said!. Keep the sunscreen on it whenever you go outside for a year unless you don't care about scars!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Saline water (water with plenty of salt in it) is what is usually used to cleanse wounds as it aids in healing!.

As long as you keep the site clean and not soak it for long, and there is no sign of infection such as fever, pus discharge, swelling, extreme sensitivity, worsening appearance of the wound, it is okay to go in salt water!.

I suggest that you clean the wound after with cooled boiled water and dry it well!. A few drops of tea tree (malaleuca alternifolia) oil (found in well-stocked pharmacies and health shops) will hasten the healing process with minimal scarring!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same thing happen to my toe!. I got brave and decided as an adult to try the ripstik casterboard!. I was actually pretty good at it but i was going downhill, too fast to turn, but i thought once i got almost to the bottom of the hill, i could turn!. When i did, it reared up and my flip-flop fell off and my toe scraped on the ground and started bleeding like crazy!. It wouldn't stop bleeding for like an hour!. So it's been almost a month now and it's not all the way scabbed over!. I figured out i needed stitches probably about 5 or 6!. But it's o!.k!. now, it hurt for about a week, i needed stitches but it's going to scab up!. So, you only really need stitches badly when you see white or it's really bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, it depends on how bad the cut was!. Try using hydrogen peroxide on the cut- it will clean it out, and if it bubbles and stings a bit- it's working!. If it continues to bleed and hurt, I would reccomend going to a doctor for it!. Make sure you keep it protected with a bandaid (one large one vs many small ones) and keep an eye on it!. Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
